Who was Yeshua? A man presented as a deity, or a deity in the guise of a man? In YESHUA The Rebel Who Shook The World, writer and historian Richard Trombinski does far more than take the most powerful figure in the history of mankind and make him real. He probes and searches into the life of Yeshua, known today as Jesus, and delivers a novel that pulls readers into the story and educates us about this man. What makes Trombinski's novel so exciting is that Yeshua is depicted as a sometimes insecure young man with gifts beyond what were considered human or, for those in power, acceptable. With the author's deft hand, readers learn not only about a mystical being, but a young man who feels human emotions and fears, passions and hope, yet senses a powerful connection between himself and God. In this meticulously research novel, we learn not only the historical significance of Yeahua's role in the development of Christianity, but the fascinating and often complex role of the Roman Empire and its powerful presence in ancient Israel.Readers will be spellbound when reading about Yeshua as an upstart troublemaker, a boy and then a young man ever searching for his true purpose, and how he resolved - through inner strength, determination, and a profound belief - those conflicts with which he grappled throughout his short life. Whether the author is guiding us through Yeshua's relationship with God or his reactions after being forced to kill through an act of self-defense, the role he takes against the establishment or the visions that threaten his life, we are propelled through each crisis and resolution, always to question who he was, while never losing sight of his ultimate dream a world in which mankind is guided and supported by human kindness and a love of God.

Wow, it's been almost a year since I read this book, and I can't believe I'm the first to review it. What an enjoyable, fun read this was!

It is a coming-of-age story of a 20-something Yeshua living in 1st century Galilee (it is only late in the book that his Greek friend suggests he change his name to "Jesus"); in love with a girl who lives across town and quite content to have a family and settle down. And yet, he cannot escape the iniquities around him--the Roman occupation, the Temple establishment--nor the growing realization that he is "special" in some way.

Although the story is fictional, the setting is very realistic, and presented in extraordinary, colorful detail (I am not a historian so I cannot speak about its authenticity). The characters are very human and very real. I really felt like I was there myself. I could sense the tension among the locals living under the burden of the occupation; I felt I could interact with the villagers during the various messiah episodes. I felt myself pulling for the young men about to be crucified.

Those Christians who are uncomfortable with anything but a literal interpretation of the Bible (and I'm not putting you down in the least) will probably find this book offensive or even blasphemous, given how "human" the character of Yeshua is portrayed. So be careful if you are in this group. I, for one, am more liberal in my beliefs and found the book to be a loving and dignified if not completely pious portayal of the greatest "person" who ever lived.

I actually give six stars for the story, but deduct one from the book for editing.
